There are many drivers on the road that do not know or understand all the rules and regulations on the roads. Which is understandable. What is CSA

CSA stands for Compliance, Safety and Accountability Points. And is important for your job’s security if you are a truck driver. This point system is only relevant to truck drivers. And is very important to understand. Truck drivers can receive point violations for different offenses.

Some CSA Violations

Driving Violations-

10 Point Violations

  • Reckless driving
  • Speeding 15 or more mph
  • Speeding in construction zones
  • Driving after being declared out of service
  • The driver uses or is in possession of drugs
  • Violating an out-of-service order for improper alcohol use

8 Point Violations

  • Unqualified driver 

7 Point Violations

  • Speeding 11 to 14 mph

5 Point Violations

  • Failure to obey a traffic control device
  • Following too close
  • Improper lane change
  • Improper passing
  • Railroad grade crossing violation
  • Improper turns
  • Failure to yield the right-of-way
  • Bus failing to stop at a railroad crossing
  • Chlorine load failing to stop at a railroad crossing
  • Placard load failing to stop at a railroad crossing
  • Failing to use caution in hazardous conditions
  • Using or equipping a radar detector in a CMV
  • The driver is in possession of, currently using, or under the influence of alcohol in the 4 hours immediately preceding coming on-duty

4 Point Violations

  • Speeding between 6 and 10 miles per hour (mph)
  • Operating as an interstate driver under the age of 21
  • Non-English speaking driver
  • Failure to understand the English language so as to decipher road signs and signals

2 Point Violations

  • Lacking physical qualifications

Consequences of CSA Point System

As you can see, from just some of the CSA violations a truck driver can receive. There are many violations and a truck driver needs to be extremely safe when driving. Because the more and more points, you have on your driving record the more consequences you can face. Some consequences include-

  • Rise in insurance
  • Loss of job
  • Suspension of license for 60 days and up
  • Fines starting at $500
  • Stays on your driving record for up to 3 years
